“One must be a work of art or wear a work of art.” Oscar Wilde
Fe le Pain currently appears as the resident, bearded, tattooed lady in the ‘freakatorium’ at the House of the Golden Lotus Burlesque Night Club.
Her work (painting, video and photography) is concerned with female representation and adornment through the decoration of the flesh. The work rests upon an alternative proposition of an ‘ideal’ beauty, one born from unofficial, and urban folklore traditions.
As a counterpoint, Fe le Pain’s large-scale abstract paintings focus texture and light through oil and ground Italian marble to create exotic landscapes of colour and shadow.
